Shakespeare asked, “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”
It’s a fair question, I guess. Think of all the various terms for all the differing shades of even mainstream political opinion: Republican, Democrat, Tory, Labour, Socialist, Liberal Democrat, Liberal Republican, etc., etc… But do each of those names mean the same thing to most people? I suspect not.
A guy I’ve met on the internet, who I like and even sometimes feel I know, wrote this description of his political beliefs. I guess it pretty well sums up a lot of what I think. Unfortunately, because of the swing to the right (and how!) of the Republican Party, he kind of falls into the Democrat camp these days, but he describes himself as a Liberal Republican and I think I understand pretty well what that is.
Like me (but perhaps without quite the same passion), he’s against big, interfering government, but he believes strongly in government with a compassionate attitude towards its citizens. Bloody right! Governments in a democracy are our representatives – our public servants and they’d better damn soon start dumping their fucking arrogance and start serving!
It’s not what politicians want that matters! They’re nothing! They’re servants and not even good ones deserving of respect at that! It’s the substance of what they achieve (or don’t) for us that’s important. They must face up to quickly losing their grandiose ideas of self importance and learn humility. It’s about time they started doing what the people want (and quite clearly want, at that!).
The real trouble with so many politicians and the huge army of bureaucrats they acquire and encourage is that they are all in love with politics and the political process. They love administration and think that it has intrinsic value.
Well, in my opinion the whole process – the politics, the administration and bureaucracy of it all – is totally fucking worthless! The only value it can possibly have is what it can achieve for the people and pointless pen pushing and regulation for its own sake is a disgusting waste of energy, our money and above all the opportunity to make life better for the citizens they are supposed to be serving.
What is it that drives some (many) of these politicians and bureaucrats to interfere sickeningly in things that are absolutely bugger all to do with them in decent people’s lives, when the same legislation means they seemingly can’t even touch the real assholes who wreck the lives of normal citizens?
I don’t believe in capital punishment and yet, if you stood some of these people (not the ones I disagree with because they’re entitled to their opinion if they try to do their job, but the ones who serve no useful purpose whatsoever to anyone but themselves – and that’s a lot of them!) up against a wall, I’d pull the goddam trigger myself!
“First thing we do is kill all the lawyers”…….most of the a/holes you write about are lawyers, at least here in the US…..once again my grandfather would say, “there is a chance to become pregnant from anal sex….where do you think lawyers come from?”
In case I am not being clear….I think lawyers are bottom feeding parasites…..LOL
Aaa-hhh yes, the litigation culture…
Yes, I can see your point. But it’s the stupid fucking bureaucrats and politicians that ALLOWED them to become so goddam intrusive in the first place. If we shot the politicians and bureaucrats first, THEN we could very easily legislate AGAINST the lawyers – just make supporting RIDICULOUS bloody lawsuits a crime against humanity and FINE them oodles of money. The fines could well pay for the healthcare, don’t you think?
Maybe the first thing we should do (after shooting the politicians, bureaucrats and a few other idiots) is to pass our new law to control the lawyers and then weed out the politically appointed and motivated judges (as well as any senile ones) make it a condition of becoming a judge that they have to the live as normal people on normal wages for six months so they know what’s what and then start appointing new, sensible ones. After that we’re back to being able to pass our single law – don’t be an asshole!
Following which humanity can live happily ever after
Incidentally, you DO realise some asshole in the FBI or the CIA is monitoring this and taking it all seriously?
Yes I do…..and some of them are lawyers too.
ha ha!
I do have my moments of humor……but being a political and economic geek labels me as a boar…..lol
I suppose “boar” might sometimes be fair, but at least you’re never a bore!
Labels have always been a problem. Whenever you try and put the population into a small number of buckets, you will always find that some people don’t quite fit into one bucket, and less so in another.
Personally, I am very liberal in mentality, but I hate to be associated with the standard Democrat. Personally, I think that government should play a larger role in the basic needs of modern life, such as transportation, energy, health and so on, on top of what is already taken care of like welfare, public schools, police etc. The corruptability of government is simply a side effect of the way we elect our government … which brings me to my pseudo disagreement with one of your points …
You mention that government officials are servents and that they aren’t good ones … you seem to be forgetting who in fact they serve. They are, in fact, very good at what they do. They serve the elite, always have. Their job is to confuse the plebs enough so that they are voted for, and thats it. They could care less about the plebs after that because they have already achieved their status in government.
… I can go on for a LONG time here, but will stop short …
Oh I do agree – with your “disgreement” too, but that is not the way it’s SUPPOSED to be, or the way they CLAIM it is. Their job is to serve the people – either ALL of the people, or where that’s not possible, then the MAJORITY of the people – whether they voted for them or not!
Well said and thanks for commenting.
